Brief Description:  2: Reaming the Gear Legs

Next step is to bolt in the landing gear weldments, however before you can do this the instructions say to insert the gear legs into the weldments and match-ream the locating hole that holds the leg aligned.

I was quite suprised that there's just a single bolt holding each gear leg in.

Anyway, after cleaning the inside of the weldment tubes with fine sandpaper, and giving the gear legs a light buff on the scotchbrite wheel, I managed to get them in and aligned. It took a bit of brute force, but I got there.

The instructions call for a 0.311" reamer. Gee, not many people would have one of those lying around. Lucky I read ahead a couple weeks ago and realised I'd need this obscure size bit of tooling. I'd ordered the right size reamer from Cleaveland Tools and it arrived just a couple days ago.

Worked a treat, and the AN4 bolts fit nice and snug in their newly reamed holes. They'd want to. Cost me $45 to get this reamer delivered from the States, and after using it on two holes I doubt if I'll ever use it again.
