Brief Description:  2: Brake Pedals

Next up today I started on the brake pedals. I cleaned up the two pedal pieces (I'm not having brakes on the passenger side), and brake cylinder attachment brackets, and then set about cutting out the four pieces of angle that hold the parts together.

The plans called for the angle brakets to be fabricated out of 063 x 3/4 x 3/4 angle. I grabbed the only length of 3/4 x 3/4 angle from my shelf and promptly set about cutting it into four lengths, match drilled holes, and shaped it as per drawings.

After I was done preparing I couldn't help but think something didn't quite look right. I finally worked out that I'd used 125 angle (1/8") instead of 063 (1/16"). I'd put my long length of 063 angle in another side shed! For the second time today I explored the depths of the English language, before then studying the implications of my blunder.

As best I can tell the only impact will be that I'll have stronger brake pedals than most. Some rivets will need to be longer, and I'll need to verify thread protrusion on some bolts, bot other than that I think I'll be fine. Weight increase will be around 50-100 grams.......I can live with that.

I now need to get myself another short length of 125 x 3/4 x 3/4 angle.

I finished the day off by alodining and priming the parts.
