Brief Description:  1: Ignition Switch Wiring

This morning I decided to terminate what wiring I can to the ignition switch. I connected the 12V positive wire, the wire to the starter relay, and the ground wire. I actually fitted two ground wires (if you look closely in the picture, you can see). One runs to the ground block, as you would expect, but I also added a second one which I rivetted to the fuselage frame.

Why?

Well, the ground wire to the ignition switch is perhaps the most important of them all as this is the one that makes the magnetos safe. With the key turned off, the magnetos are connected to ground, and cannot produce a spark (therefore engine cannot run).

BUT, if the ground wire breaks, or comes off, then the magnetos will never br grounded, regardless of the switch position. A casual pull on the propeller could, in theory, result in the engine starting.

I added the second ground wire for redundancy.
