A big day today painting the empennage in primer. I spent ages rubbing back the surfaces with isopropyl alcohol, to get all the dirt and grime off, then I mixed up some vinyl etch primer and got to it with my spray gun.
After I finished I realised I perhaps should have scuffed the alclad surface as the paint hasn't seemed to adhered too well. It scratches off quite easily. This is a very confusing topic for me. Many "experts" say you should never rub back the alclad coating, yet other "experts" say you need to. I was also of the understanding that an "etch primer" did just that, etched the surface itself. Anyway, it's done now. It can always be fixed later if needed.
