Brief Description: Reassembling the Empennage
|
|
I was going to buy my engine in a couple weeks, but this goddam coronavirus has put paid to that. There's no way I'm buying anything from the States when our Aussie dollar is only worth US$0.55. That's just ridiculous, so I just have to wait until it comes back ..... someday.
In the meantime, I decided to change tack with regard to final assembly of the empannage. I was going to have all the individual parts painted, and then reassemble at the airport, but now I'm just going to reassemble as-is, and get the whole aircraft painted at once, after I've flown it.
So tonight I set about rearranging my workshop, and then commenced bolting the horizontal and vertical stabilisers in place. In doing so, however, I realise I've left a whole row of rivets unfinished. The bottom picture below shows a row of holes along the top edge of the side skin, which all need rivets. I'll take the stabilisers off again tomorrow and get these done. I think there's some nutplates to attend to for the fairing as well.

Rearranged the workshop so I can better assemble the empennage

Looks more like an aeroplane with these bits bolted on
