Brief Description: Attaching the Vertical Stabiliser
Did a couple more hours after work tonight, and most was a waste of time thanks to the poorly written instructions supplied by Vans.
I got up to the step that says to clamp the vertical stabliser into position and then ensure vertical alignment by measuring from the top to the elevator end tips at each side. I spent a good hour, firstly clamping the rear spar in the centre of the rear bulkhead that it attaches to, and at the correct height. I then made many fine adjustments to the vertical angle, measuring as described until eventually I had the exact same distance on both sides, therefore a perfectly vertical stabiliser. I even spent some time double checking with the digital protractor.
All good, so on with the next step.
"Bolt the Vertical Stabiliser rear spar to the elevator upper stop bracket"
Wait.....what?.....what elevator upper stop bracket?
Checked drawings, and there it is....an elevator upper stop bracket. No mention of it anywhere in the instructions until now. Awesome part is that to install it I need to take the vertical stabiliser off again.
Oh well. I made up the bloody bracket, and primed it, all ready to install tomorrow. Two hours for that!
