Brief Description:  3: Building the Trim Tab

After getting all my jigs and clamping blocks sorted, I then got to actually build something. As per the instructions, I cut down the trim tab horn pieces to suit an electric servo (manual trim control has a different attachment point). I then match drilled these pieces to the skin, and then deburred, dimpled, alodined and primed, ready for riveting in place. I also scuffed and primed the skin where the horn pieces attach.

The instructions say to rivet the horn pieces to the skin at this point, however reading ahead I figured that this will only make the next steps more difficult, so I've left them off for now.

Next I folded over the little end pieces, using my clamping blocks to hold the skin secure, and my rivet gun with flush-set to form the square folded edge. This worked out quite well.

Finally today I match drilled the trim tab spar and dimpled (bottom holes) and countersunk (top holes) as required. This piece will need to be alodined and primed, but that can wait until tomorrow.
