Brief Description:  2: Trim Tab Jigs and Tools

Much of today was spent making up the various little tools and jigs necessary to build the trim tab.

First up I built a simple bending brake from a couple 1m lengths of 190x19mm pine. The instructions say to use 8"x2" (190x45), however this is very expensive here in Roxby, and besides, I didn't think the added mass was actually necessary for bending the little trim tab skin (and I was proved right later in the day). I lined my brake with felt to make sure there were no marks left on the skin surface. I also added a simple handle to make using it easier.

Next I made up a couple simple wooden clamps so that I could easily, and accurately, bend the trim tab end pieces over, exactly as advised in the instructions. This worked quite well.

And lastly, I also made up a couple clothes peg style clamping blocks, by following the template on the plans. These will be used to apply pressure over the trim tab stiffeners as the tank sealant sets.
