Brief Description:  1: Continuing with the Left Elevator

Some good progress on the left elevator today. First up I riveted in the little gusset that helps hold the trim tab spar, before then riveting in the the trim tab spar itself (to the bottom skin only).

Next I riveted the skins to the root and tip ribs, leaving the three aft-most rivets in the tip rib out for now, to make it easier to work on the trailing edge wedge.

Although the instructions don't call for the trailing edge wedge to be glued in with tank sealant on this elevator, I'm going to do it all the same. The trailing edge is much shorter on the left elevator, due to the trim tab, however I still want it to be as straight and secure as possible.

With this in mind, I match drilled a short piece of aluminium angle to the holes in the top skin, and then match drilled these to the aluminium wedge piece, and bottom skin. I then dimpled all the holes on the skin, and machine countersunk all holes on the wedge piece. It's now ready for gluing in place with tank sealant.
