Brief Description:  2: Rolling the Rudder Leading Edge

With the rudder trailing edge done, I could now turn my attention to the leading edge. Here the two skin sections that protrude past the main spar need to be rolled so that you end up with a nice curved surface.

I'd already bought myself a wooden broomstick for the task, so taped this to the right side skin. I then attached a pair of vice grips, and set about forming a nice neat rolled surface.

The left side skin presented a small complication in that the edge of the skin is folded at right angles. To counter this, I used my table saw to create a slot in the broomstick that the skin flange could sit in. Then it was a simple matter of taping the broomstick in place, and forming the rolled edge as per the other side.
