Brief Description:  Assembling the Rudder

A big day at Roxby Downs Aeroplane Company today, with all attention focussed on assembly of the rudder.

First up I riveted the attachment reinforcement plates to the main spar, opting for the hand squeezer wherever I could. It's slower, but produces a cleaner rivet.

Following the instructions I then assembled the bottom rib, including the rudder horn, rudder brace and shim. This went well, so I then moved on to the top rib and counterweight, which again, proved no drama. I torqued the counterweight bolts to 28in-lb.

To round out the day I then cleco'd both skins in place and riveted ....and riveted ...and riveted.

The next step is to form the trailing edge. This looks quite tricky, so best to start fresh next time I think.

Time for a shower, and a beer!
