Brief Description: Finished off the Rudder Stiffeners
Tonight I finished off the last four pairs of rudder stiffeners, spending about 15 minutes per pair. I had the process already down pat from last night: 1: prepare layout lines 2: check my layout by overlaying the pieces on the skin 3: cut to length with tin snips 4: make the long diagonal cut on the bandsaw 5: trim the short cuts to layout lines on the bench grinder 6: trim the long diagonal cut on the belt sander 7: smooth all round at the scotchbrite wheel 8: start over on the next pair
Although hesitant at the time, I'm glad now that I outlayed some cash up front for the right machinery. It sure makes life much easier than cutting, filing and smoothing everything by hand. The scotchbrite wheel on my bench grinder, especially, has turned out a brilliant investment.
Stiffeners were fabricated one pair at a time
All laid out on the left and right rudder skins
All stiffeners were nicely smoothed and rounded at the scotchbrite wheel
