Brief Description:  2: No compromises

While touching up some bucking bar and rivet set scrapes on the VS front spar, I noticed that one of my rivets was not seated very well.

This rivet was in a very difficult spot, and I contemplated the overall impact of just one imperfect rivet, but then I reminded myself of what I'm actually building here. My bum will be in this plane at anything up to 10,000' above terra firma. With that in mind I reaffirmed to myself that there will be NO rivets that I am not happy with, so out it came.

I used my right-angled drill extension to remove the rivet head, then punched it out with a pin-punch. After a quick clean up of the hole I then drove in a new rivet. Still not pretty, but at least it is seated and formed properly.

The difficulty with these particular rivets is that they are set in very close to the bottom VS main and nose ribs, making it difficult (impossible) to get straight-on pressure. Several times I slipped off with the rivet gun causing unsightly marking on the front spar.

Even though it won't be seen, I touched up the marks with some spray pack primer, just to maintain the same level of corrossion protection.

Very difficult to get in, as evidenced by all the scratches, but at least it's now rivetted properly
