Brief Description: Horizontal Stabiliser is almost done
Another big day in the shed, and now the horizontal stabliser is almost done. Building the left side was an exact duplication of yesterday's work on the right, so no description needed here.
Everything went very well, right up until the very last step when I went to tighten the bolts that secure the centre elevator hinge bracket to the rear spar. I made a mistake setting my torque wrench and I ended up stripping the thread on a couple of the bolts. One was so bad that I couldn't get it out again (the nut just kept spinning but wouldn't undo). I ended up drilling the head off the bolt and knocked it out with a pin punch. I'm now going to order four new bolts from Vans.
I was itching to rivet the rear spar in place, but once I do then I won't have access to the ribs, and I still want to touch up the primer in a few spots where I've scratched it off with the bucking bar. So for now, I just have to leave it as "almost done".
