Brief Description:  Front Windshield

The final job this weekend was to start preparing the front windshield. I started by getting all the cut edges smoothed off (to prevent stress cracking later) using a sanding block and scraper. With the edges all nice and clean I then set about making up some small clamp brackets to hold the edges of the windshield down against the fuselage. Although very unsightly, these brackets get covered in fibreglass later, so will not be seen.

I actually had the windshield on and off about four times, trimming a little more away from the edges to help get a better fit against the fuselage sides. It takes quite a bit of pressure to get it flat in some places, and I want to alleviate such stresses as much as possible. Of course, each time I cut some perspex away then I had to spend more time sanding it back smooth again.

Anyway, am getting there.
