This morning I unbolted the horizontal and vertical stabilisers and started fitting the empennage gap covers. These fit underneath the horizontal stabiliser, one on each side, and close up the gap to the fuselage.
I match drilled the cover pieces, then drilled and tapped those mounting holes that align with the longerons. I also fitted nutplates to the fuselage as per drawings, and had a bit of a mishap. While trying to dimple the nutplate rivet holes, using the pneumatic squeezer, I damaged the metal around the lightening hole on the rear bulkhead. As the squeezer closed up it squashed and split the aluminium. Bugger! I've flattened it back out and will rivet on a patch tomorrow.
Match drilling the empennage fairing gap covers
A mishap from trying to use the pneumatic dimpler where it won't fit
I'll place a patch over this and make it a checklist item on my 100-hourly inspection
