Gotta love the aircraft building fraternity. Shortly after posting my last log, Simon, who I assume is/was a fellow builder, sent me an email suggesting the spray-on White Lithium Grease I used on the aileron bellcrank bushings was not such a good choice. Apparently this WD-40 product will dry out and not afford the long lasting lubrication required.
I therefore decided to take Simon's advice and get a better lubricant. I went back down to the local Roxby Downs hardware store and the best I could find was a 500g tub of Valvoline Multi-Purpose General Automotive & Industrial Grease.
I took both bellcrank assemblies out, pulled out the brass bushes, and cleaned them both up. I then smeared the Valvoline grease on and reassembled.
Job done. Thanks Simon.
The right aileron bellcrank removed and pulled apart, ready for a re-grease.
This Valvoline product should be better than the WD-40 spray-on grease that I originally had in mind.
