When my dad, Bruce, was here a few weeks ago I got him to make up a small mounting plate for the tail position light out of some scrap aluminium. This plate needs to be fixed to the fibreglass rudder fairing to provide a secure mount for the very expensive nav/strobe light.
After carefully drilling and countersinking the various holes needed, and match drilling to the rudder fairing, I then etch-cleaned the piece in Alumibrite before treating with Alodine. I still can't get over how awesome my aluminium parts look when they come out of the Alodine bath.
Next I mixed up a small batch of epoxy and spread a thin layer over the roughed-up rudder fairing, and attached the alodined mounting plate.
I'll further secure it in place tomorrow with a couple blind rivets.
