Another decision I wrestled with was what type of ignition for the experimental engine. While the old magneto products are certainly a safe bet, I opted for a more modern electronic ignition hoping to get just a little more performance from the Lycoming. I decided on dual P-Mags with auto style wiring harnesses and NGK plugs. I chose this product since it has electrical generation onboard so the ignition will continue to function even with a failed electrical system (much like standard mags). The auto style plugs are much cheaper than standard aircraft plugs. In my case, $5 each for the NGK plugs with three ground straps versus about $33 for Champion aviation plugs. The P-Mag product, by the way, is a very nice looking assembly.
