Brief Description:  Fabricated fuel lines & installed valve - part 1

I finally completed the fabrication of the fuel lines today. Working with tubing in the confined spaces of the cockpit is a task I dislike about as much as fabricating fuel tanks. Anyway, I began the day by completing a mounting bracket to hold the fuel flow transducer. It was made from a piece of angle aluminum blind riveted to the cockpit floor with an upright piece of aluminum flat stock screwed to the angle so it can be removed. The transducer in turn is fastened to the upright with a couple small bolts. I used some washers between the bracket and the transducer to get just the right alignment with the pump and lines.

The transducer is connected to the pump with a swivel coupler. The output side of the transducer is connected to a short piece of 3/8" tubing that in turn runs to a 90 degree elbow bulkhead fitting on the firewall. It makes a relatively simple and neat installation.

The next step was to fabricate the line running form the output side of the selector valve to the input side of the pump. This was a bit more difficult since one end of the line had to be flared once it was routed through the gear tower. I began by removing the pump, transducer, and lines running up to the firewall. The valve end of the tubing was then bent and flared (remembering to install the nut and sleeve first) and the line inserted clear thru the gear tower so it could be flared. Once flared, the line moved aft and attached to the selector valve and the pump. The components forward of the pump were then reinstalled.
