Today I used the cardboard pattern previously created to fabricate a compartment door from .032 alclad sheet. Once I had the panel fitted it was attached to the mid-cabin cover with a length of piano hinge. It was then necessary to do some final filing and edge deburring/polishing to get a good fit to the switch console flange.
The only task remaining is to acquire and install an appropriate latch. I am currently looking for a flush mounted slide or paddle latch. As usual, it's the little things that take longer than expected. I may have to order a latch on the internet since I am not having much luck at the local hardware outlets and the FBO prices are ridiculous. I had the same problem locating latches for the rear baggage compartment (should have ordered some extra paddle latches at that time).
