I recently reviewed a George Orndorf DVD on the RV-8 fuselage construction, specifically the section on landing gear installation. George mentioned that drilling the landing gear brackets and match drilling everything to the airframe was hard drilling but had to be done. Well, that was an understatement. In preparation, I bought some brand new DeWalt drill bits for use on hardened steel. Even with these bits the drilling was a challenge and rather tiring. It takes a slow drill speed, lots of Boelube, and steady pressure to get through the steel brackets and weldments.
