Brief Description:  Counterweight shaping

When shaping and fitting the elevator counterweights it ocurred to me that once inserted with the dimpled skins sitting firmly in the countersunk lead weight, it would be very difficult to remove the weight. Once the fiberglass tip is epoxied to the counterweight, any future removal of the assembly from the elevator would be problematic. To remedy the situation I made a cutting tool from an old wood chisel and cut a groove in each counterweight reaching up to the most outboard bolt hole. The groove is the same depth as the countersink so now, the weights can be inserted and removed with very little effort even after the fiberglass is permanently attached. Now that I went to all this trouble, it will probably never be necessary to remove the tip once riveted in place.
