The hardest part of fabricating a bushing to protect the elevator hinge bearing was fiinding the appropriate size tubing. Searching the shop and a local hardware produced no results. A second look in the shop, however, turned up an old welding tip which was just the right size. I cut a piece out of the tip long enough to slide through the bearing with about 1/4" exposed on each side. The O.D. on the tube was slightly larger than the I.D. of the bearing so I chucked the tube in an air drill and spun it against some fine sandpaper until it fits perfectly in the bearing with no play. The last step was to run a #40 drill through the tube to ream it out. Had to sacrifice an old welding tip but got a perfect result.
