Brief Description:  New tool for fuselage preparation

In my last log entry I mentioned a couple dimplinig challenges. The first was a row of #30 holes on the forward end of the left and right bottom center skins. These holes are far enough from the edge of the skin that they can't be dimpled with the DRDT or my squeezer which only has a 3" yoke.

My other challenge was eight holes on the forward bottom skin that are up against the landing gear boxes (4 holes on each side). These can't be reached with any of my existing tools.

Thank goodness for the Van's Air Force Forum. After a little searching this morning I came across an idea from Rick Galati. I modified the approach just a little and fabricated the dimpling tools shown below. First, I took a 1/2" dia steel rod, cut it to length, and drilled the end to accept a std dimple die (male or female as required). I then took one of my steel bucking bars and drilled a hole to also accept a die set.

Check out the dimples made with this tool in my next log entry.
