Brief Description:  Back riveting tools for upper wing skins

After reading and consulting some fellow builders I have decided to back rivet the upper wing skins on the port wing. To accomplish this task, I needed some special tools including some extra long back rivet sets and a reasonably heavy bucking bar with a large working surface. I found the required items at Avery Tool. Luckily, the bucking bar was on sale but the two extra long back rivet sets were not. I may not need both long rivet sets but decided to get a straight and double offset version assuming I will eventually find applications for both. By the way, Avery supplies a couple spare roll pins for each of their rivet sets knowing that eventually they will fail and need replacement. I have already had to replace the pins on back rivet sets from other vendors and it is not always easy to find good quality replacement pins. Many thanks to Avery.

To save some future shipping expense, I decided to purchase a couple other items on the order including replacement powder for a pneumatic spark plug cleaner and some pins for temporary assembly of elevator and rudder to the stabilizers.

The order has arrived so as soon as my bucking partner is available, we will get the upper wing skins riveted. I have been occupied the last couple days with tour assignments at the NMUSAF and this evening we have one of the granddaughters to entertain here at the house. Hopefully, I will be back in the workshop tomorrow.
