Brief Description:  Builder consultation and miscellaneous items

I began the day by inspecting the left fuel tank interior again with a flashlight and mirror looking for any suspect leak points. Finding none, I wiped out the tank with some acetone just to be sure there is no dirt or debris left from previous work sessions.

A little later in the day a fellow RV-8 builder living in the area, Val Kozak, came by to inspect my work and gave me a chance to get some miscellaneous questions answered. Val's RV-8 is nearly complete so he has faced and solved the challenges I am still running up against. His visit was quite helpful. I highly recommend talking to other RV builders whenever possible. Their experience and advice can be invaluable.

Later in the afternoon, I tackled a couple easy tasks including installing the AN fitting for the pitot tube and line. The AN fitting requires a 7/16" hole be drilled through the leading edge skin and the front spar flange (no real problem, just be careful with the spar flange). I then routed the pitot line through the wing, bent the line appropriately, slipped the nut and flare collar on the line, and flared the end of the line for connection to the AN fitting. You will see in the picture below, I haven't yet inserted the snap bushings in the ribs to protect the pitot line. I will do this a little later.

Another task accomplished was locating a point on the wing ribs for the wirng conduit (nylon tubing from Van's). I picked a spot near the bottom edge of the ribs where there should be no interference with the aileron control rod or bucking the skin to rib rivets. I made a cardboard template to mark the hole location on each rib. I now need to determine the proper hole diameter and get the correct Unibit (probably about 13/16"). Center of the hole will be where the cleco is located.
