I purchased the "From the Ground Up" video series in 2006 not long after the annual Oshkosh gathering. This video series was produced by EAA for educational TV. As it happens, the series follows the construction of an RV-8 from Van's quickbuild kit. While the video does not go into extreme detail, it does present a good overview and gives the viewer a reasonable idea as to the skills required, tools, workshop processes, and degree of difficulty in construction of a quickbuild kit. The film also visits a homebuilder constructing a standard kit and another restoring a classic aircraft. The film takes the viewer from RV-8 kit delivery through construction to FAA inspection and certification.
I purchased and viewed this video two years before making the decision to build an RV-8. It served as a catalyst to get me thinking and doing more research into an RV-8 project. I highly recommend the video to anyone considering the construction of an experimental aircraft, particularly one of Van's designs. It's both entertaining and informative.
