I decided to purchase the DRDT-2 dimpling tool from Cleaveland Aircraft Tool. It comes with plans to build the work surface seen in the picture. It is constructed of particle board and covered with out door carpet. Some builders prefer the C-frame with mallet but I am very pleased with the quality of dimples using this tool. The key seems to be proper adjustment and preloading the ram. The ram should be adjusted with enough preloading to create light witness marks around the dimple. Once adjusted, every dimple comes out the same.
