Brief Description:  Flight controls, some belts, and flap system

Ok, some more progress to report at the hangar this week end. First, I am declaring the flight controls, at least the sticks, torque tube, pitch and roll trim systems, and autopilot linkages complete. I actually finished the aileron trim on Friday evening but it had some spring noise in it when moving the stick left and right. So, I disassembled the torque tube and its connections, removed the tube and did some light grinding to the brackets where the trim springs attach. They were then greased lightly and reinstalled. They are now much quieter, not completely silent but much improved.

Besides working on the springs yesterday I crawled back in the tail cone to tighten a rod end bearing jam nut on the push/pull tube that connects the sticks to the bell crank. By the way, old inflexible bones like mine are not meant for crawling into confined spaces like an RV-8 fuselage. Anyway, all the nuts, bolts, assemblies, etc. in the tail section are installed and ready to button up. Oh, I also installed the shoulder straps in the back for my five point harness (Hooker seat belt system). So, today I installed three interior panels, one defining the front of the rear baggage area, and two rear cockpit floor pieces. All these panels will be pop riveted in place shortly. They are not meant to be removable since there is nothing to maintain beneath them.

Next, I installed the flap bar and electric flap actuator to determine what additional mods are required to install the flap positioning system (manufactured by Show Planes). I will have to remove some metal from the port rear armrest to make this aftermarket product work but I should be able to figure it out in one more shop session.

I am anxious to do a final test on the automatic flap positioning hardware even though there will be a little more work involved when the wing and flaps are installed later this year. I think that's it for now.
