Brief Description:  Grinding main gear U bracket

The shop instructions indicate there should be at least .030 in clearance between the U brackets and the wear plates. Well, the port side was fine but the starboard side only had about .020 on the forward portion of the bracket (the aft portion was ok).

Unfortunately, that meant the bracket had to be removed and ground a bit to get the clearance. I had to remove and reinstall it twice before I got the uniform .030 clearance. Removing the bracket requires reversing gear installation. That is, hoisting the fuselage, removing the inboard center bolt and the two outboard U bracket bolts, sliding the gear out enough to remove the bracket, and then putting the gear leg back in place semi-supporting the fuselage in conjunction with the hoist just for safety. In my case it was like installing the starboard gear leg three times before I got the proper U bracket clearance.

Anyway, you can see in the photo below I got the clearance correct.
