Brief Description:  Reworked encoder harness

I had to relocate the mounting bracket for my Ameri-King encoder down and to the right a bit to get more room for wiring along the fuselage cross member. Unfortunately, with the encoder box moved to the right the DB15 connector now interferes with the radio fuse block. It works but the encoder cable extends between some wires and in front of the block.

I have decided to shorten the cable bundle and install a 90 degree DB connector so the harness can be routed vertically avoiding the fuse block. As usual, the task is more difficult than expected. The old cable had a prefabricated connector which cannot be reused. The Dsub connector is encased in a silicon and rubber housing that must be carefully cut away so the wire-to-port relationship can be documented (need to guarantee that the appropriate colored wires go in the identical ports in the new replacement connector).

In documenting the wires I found a surprise. The red power lead is attached to the 28V socket in the connector. I expected to find it in the 13.75V socket. Don't know why it came from the factory this way but it worked in the previous aircraft so that is how it will be reinstalled.

Anyway, I should have the new connector within a day or two so this task can be completed.
