Brief Description:  Skytec starter config and order

Like so many of the component decisions I wrestled with the selection of a starter. After flying behind the old Prestolite starter on my Archer I knew some newer technology was in order. I finally narrowed the list down to two starters available from the SkyTec folks. Apparently, many new engines are delivered these days with the SkyTec in-line unit (NL-149) and this may have been the best choice. However, in the end I opted for the old standard SkyTec flyweight starter that Van's sells for the Lycoming engines. It's a nice looking and very lightweight product that seems to be widely used.

There are reports of kick-back damage problems on these starters but most of what I was able to find on internet forums seem to date back a few years. Hopefully, I won't regret this decision and selection.
