Brief Description: Located and installed ELT antenna
I finally decided to install the ELT antenna under the fiberglass tail fairing. Not an ideal place but hopefully the best of the limited alternatives. I had to fabricate a washer/spacer with one side shaved away in order to mount the antenna base flush against the bulkhead. The spacer allows the lock nut and washer to set flush against the bulkhead without interfering with the stiffener that is pressed into the edge of the lightening hole.
The rubber base of the antenna sets very close to both the rudder and elevator spars. I may install a piece of vinyl tubing over the base to guard against chafing. The base of the antenna is made of some fairly substantial rubber so the extra protection may not be necessary. You can see in image two the anti-chafing tubing.
