After fabricating a glove box, attaching it to the instrument panel, and then mounting the panel in the fuselage, I found that the box could be lengthened by at least 2.5". I decided the additional space could be useful so I took the time to fabricate a second box. It wasn't difficult since the patterns were already made. I just lengthened the patterns by 2.5", cut the new metal, and riveted the pieces together. I did have to remove the mounting angles from the first box and reinstall on the replacement but it wasn't difficult. The little 18" metal brake from Harbor Freight did speed the metal bending.
You can see in the picture below the original box and the larger replacement. You can't have too much storage in an RV-8.
