Brief Description:  Forward upper fuselage and baggage door

The first task this morning was to remove the forward upper fuselage skin, deburr all the components, bevel the edges of the skin where it overlaps the fuselage side skins, and get all the parts dimpled. After beveling the skin, I reclecoed it in place to check the overlapped edges for a good fit. The forward skin is rather heavy making it difficult to get a snug fit against the side skins. Anyway, I added a little more bevel and think it will pull down nicely when the riveting begins.

Once the skin and all the related components were 100% clecoed I began working on the baggage door. The door has been initially assembled and all the match drilling completed. The hinge was cut to length and match drilled per the shop manual. I also fabricated the latch push rods using the drill press and Dremel cutting wheel.

Next step will be to disassemble the door, deburr, dimple, reassemble the components, fit it to the fuselage (duct tape it in place on the fuselage), and then blind rivet the inner door skin. That should be a real experience since it must be done from inside the fuselage. I guess that means removing the rudder perdals and front stick so I can crawl into the forward fuselage. That should be a unique photo opportunity! Assuming I get in there and get the riveting done, I wonder if it will be possible to get out? Should probably have built this bird when I was younger and more flexible.
