Brief Description:  Inventory reorganzation

I noticed recently that my assembly times were longer than necessary due to my inventory picking procedure. From the beginning of the RV-8 project I have kept the hardware (nuts, bolts, washers, etc.) in the brown paper bags as delivered from Van's. When a part is required I check the inventory sheet which gives me a bag number where the item is stored.

Now that I have a better handle on parts nomenclature and naming conventions, I believe the picking process can be expedited by separating the hardware into individual bins. To implement this change I picked up a few plastic divided containers from Harbor Freight and set about sorting my hardware. All my hardware bags from the tail, wing, and fuselage kits were combined, sorted, and placed in bins.

Now when a bolt is needed, I can go straight to the bolt box and select the required item by just checking the identifier on the lid (all the bins are labeled with the AN or MS number). The only items left in the paper bags are individual components such as brackets, hydraulic and/or fuel NPT fittings, etc.

This is going to speed assembly.
