Brief Description:  NMUSAF Restoration Workshop - Page 5

The first picture below shows the interior of the ball turret. A few items are still to be installed such as the Browning 50 caliber machine guns, ammunition cans, and the optical gunsight but the volunteers assigned to this project are getting close to completion. That's good because they now have a B-24 turret to restore.

The extra pictures included here are for an A-1H Skyraider from the Vietnmam War. You may recall the Skyraider was originally a Navy carrier aircraft designed during WWII but used extensively in Korea. Later the USAF pulled a bunch of the birds from the bone yard, refurbished them for use in Vietnam for close air support and ground attack. A common mission was escorting rescue helicopters to pick up downed aircrews.

The "Spad" shown is an H model probably left behind when we left Vietnam. We don't yet know its complete history but Russian parts were found in the aircraft when the restoration began. The question then becomes, how did it find its way back into American hands?
