Brief Description: Compressor piping changes - part 1
Having mentioned a moisture issue with my compressor in a couple log entries, I recently received some advice from a fellow builder, Robert Saul. You gotta love the homebuilding community. There is always someone out there that has already solved the problem and is willing to pass along a solution.
In this case, Robert sent me some information on a compressor piping/filter kit that I was able to purchase from TP Tools & Equipment located in Canfield, Ohio. They had two kits available, one with a moisture separator and another with a coalescing filter. I chose the coalescing filter option thinking it will probably do a better job during the humid Ohio summer. The first image below shows the piping, regulator, and filter assembled and mounted on the wall of my shop. The only changes I made to the std kit was to add a union between the regulator and filter (required two 2" nipples) and three fabricated brackets to stabilize the piping on the wall. A heavy bracket is supplied to mount the regulator to the wall.
The biggest challenge in the installation was getting all the plumbing joints air tight. Initially I opted for pipe thread dope but eventually used some teflon tape on some of the connections. Anyway, it's now operational. My thanks to Robert Saul.
