Brief Description:  Priming fuselage parts - part 4

The primer ordered last week from Advanced Auto arrived so I was able to complete the priming of the forward fuselage section. I decided it would be easier to prime this structure before the skins and other parts are riveted in place. I began by wiping everything down with MEK to removed any oil residues. Next, the surfaces were hand rubbed with a maroon scotchbrite pad to removed the gloss from the aluminum. The aluminum was then wiped down a second time to be sure the surface was clean. Finally, I primed the structure with Duplicolor self-etching paint (rattle can).

Applying the interior paint is going to be difficult. Even with the forward fuselage assembly relatively open, it was not always easy to get the primer spray where needed and keep it evenly coated. With the fuselage canoe assembled, it is going to be a giant pain!

I had some extra time, so I primed a couple parts that will be riveted into the forward fuselage section. You may recognize the baggage bulkhead that I modified with an access door to allow servicing components behind the instrument panel.
