Brief Description: Cut Fuselage Jig Parts & Rearrange Shop
I spent some time this morning cutting the wood that will become the fuselage jig. I was able to fabricate most of the 2x4 components from the wing jig. As mentioned earlier, I was also able to make the 1x4 bracing material by ripping the 1x12s supplied as part of the wing crate. About the only lumber still needed from Lowes will be four 2x6s (the main jig rails) and a couple 2x4s for the uprights at the firewall end of the jig. A couple 1x4s are needed to complete the uprights but these can be cut from the fuselage crate. The triangular braces shown in the plans can also be cut from plywood supplied in the fuselage crate.
The only remaining items are some assorted screws and maybe some angle aluminum or steel for various brackets. Some of the bracket material can be fabricated from shop scrap. Most of the screws can also be found in the shop.
Here's hoping the dimensions for the fuselage jig on Van's plans are correct. I cut all the pieces as close to the called-out dimensions as possible so hopefully, when the jig is built and the fuselage components are clamped in place, it will all be satisfactory.
