Brief Description:  Left main gear modification/construction

I began this landing gear by removing the strut assembly from an old yamaha exciter snowmobile. After welding the strut assembly to a gear leg, the strut tube in trailing configuration, I began location estimates with regard to both empty and loaded weight. My bigest concearn was the empty weight configuration. The main gear needed to be far enough aft to allow sufficient weight to remain on the nose gear so not to allow the tail to fall to the ground. This is not a concearn when there is a pilot in the front seat which brings the aircraft into CG.

There is a main tube running from main spar to rear spar that the gear leg attaches to. There are plates welded to each end of the main tube that allow mounting with the wing attach fittings on the main spar and to the rear spar splice plate as well.

The original spring located in the strut assembly was a little weak to support the aircraft. It turns out that they were only 200 lb max rated springs. It took some searching but I managed to locate springs of similar size and travel in the 700 max load range.
