It seems as though the plans dimension on the spacing of the canopy mounts may be off just a little. The struts are actually hitting "bottom" when the canopy is closed causing things to move up and forward. I rechecked the dimensions several times and when my struts are completely closed they are 1/4" wider than the plan dimension. Checked the mounts in the plane too thinking that maybe I mismeasured when I put them in but I hadn't. I'll make some new parts to mount to the fuselage to move them rearward.
