Brief Description:  Tailwheel Mount Modification

The replacement tailwheel "mount plate" had been formed incorrectly at the factory causing a large (2mm) gap under one side of the composite spring, I requested a replacement part but was told to just fill the gap with resin & cotton flock. They obviously don't understand the loading my landings place upon undercarriage components so I have elected to make my own part, nothing really new for me to do that but this material is 0.090" thick, probably at the limit of my capabilities. I used a propane torch to anneal the 6061-T6 sheet to avoid cracking whilst bending, using a simple candle to produce soot on the area to be bent marks where to apply heat & by applying just enough heat to burn the soot off, that is happily the correct temperature for annealing. Bends came out OK if not a little large on the radius but I think they will suffice. Two bolts also hold the composite in place, I'll drill those holes & a slot for the tie down ring tomorrow.
