Today PGC & I carried out the intent of "Safety Alert #0005 - fuel tank pick-up potentially rotating during assembly or maintenance". Our fuel tanks were assembled at the factory as an optional extra to our kits. In attempting to carry out the Safety Alert, we found that the supplied "P clamp" was impossible to install as per the instructions due to the fuel pick-up tube being installed very close to the surfaces of the tank & some sealant had also grabbed the pick-up in several places. To allow the supplied clamp to be installed would have required MAJOR surgery that would more than likely have caused more damage than it was worth. We decided to instead, install a bracket manufactured from 20mm x 20mm x 1.5mm aluminium angle extrusion (alodined and installed using Flamemaster CS3204 B1/2 tank sealant and a 3.2mm rivet) that sits above the pick-up thereby preventing its movement upward. The pick-up in both tanks was sitting against the floor of the tank so I am satisfied the intent of the Safety Alert in preventing POTENTIAL movement has been met with our installation.
