Brief Description:  Cowl Fitting

Today I completed the jig for setting the cowl gap against the spinner. A tapered, 6mm thick MDF disc which supports & centres the upper cowl, is screwed to the 3mm MDF disc that sets the gap. This assembly is bolted to the propeller spacer so everything is referenced to the spinner. I've set a 3mm gap for the moment in case of removing too much material at the rear edge. The build manual calls for a 5mm gap, I'll sneak up on that after the initial trim. As the spinner is larger in diameter than the cowl nose, I've decided to align the top of the spinner about 1mm higher than the cowl leading edge as I think it looks better in profile than the 3mm difference in having the spinner & cowl concentric. Next step is to drill & cleco the lower cowl to the upper & check the fit of the joggle along the mating edges.
