Brief Description:  Rear Fuselage

Today I primed the mating surfaces of the remote compass mounting bracket then drilled the number 4 fuselage rib crossmember ensuring the mounting screw holes for the compass unit are in line with the centreline of the fuselage. Having done that, I then attempted to install the supplied, aluminium (non magnetic) rivnuts, that's when my day became longer as the first rivnut would not hold. The kit supplied for this task includes only the minimum number of required parts and as I have no spare aluminium M4 rivnuts, I filed the side of the rivnut flange flat & installed a non-magnetic stainless steel rivet also with its flange filed flat next to it thus providing an anti-rotation lock. The problem is that the rivnut's minimum grip length is greater than the thickness of the bracket (0.8mm) so I produced a doubler for the backside of the mounting surface & installed the remaining rivnuts.
