Brief Description:  Left Wing

During my last visit to the factory I discovered an issue that applies only to the Sling 2 with factory built fuel tanks. The Sling 4 has a different design in this area. One important step in the manufacture of the fuel tanks is to cleco the tank to the spar for 3 days (wing in jigs) whilst the sealant cures. This step has been omitted for factory built aircraft & it has caused some aircraft to develop a minor fuel weep after some hours of service due to some areas of the tank being under stress that eventually splits the sealant. The problem originates from the tank not having the opportunity to conform to its host spar during the sealant curing phase. My tanks were built at the factory as an extra cost option. When I checked my tanks upon my return home, they showed deformation of the inboard rib at the position of “Fuel Tank Mounting Channel WG-BKT-010-X-A-0” . I decided I would perform relatively minor surgery now in order to alleviate major problems in the future. The following photos attempt to show my modification, basically cutting the offending bracket in two & installing 2 doubler plates (0.051" thick) to the now relaxed bracket. I’ll finish the mod for the left wing & I’ll try to complete the same mod on the right wing tomorrow.
