Brief Description:  Horizontal Stabilizer Riveting

This log entry detrails my continued work riveting the fore and aft spars of the Horizontal Stbilizer. After compleing riveting the HS-603PP to the HS-609PP, I riveted the HS-413PP and HS-412PP hinge brackets to the rear spar of the horizontal stabilizer. I used the pneumatic squeezer to install the rivets and only had to remove a few when they did not come out as well as I desired. My work on the rivets vastly improved along with my confidence when I secured the material closer to the area with which I was workig with the squeezer. This allowed me to stabilize the material and use the squeezer without worrying about the material deflecting and ruining my attempt at riveting it.

After completing the aft spar, I moved my efforts to working on the forward spar. After clecoing the parts together and inspecting their fit post-priming, I then affixed them to the work bench using a system of 2x4's and clamps. this stabilized and secured the materal and allowed me to work on it with confidence. I attempted to use the squeezer to set the rivets as described in the instructions. However, no squeezer yoke would fit properly over the assembly with confidence, including the Longeron yoke. Not wanting to" try and see" I elected to rivet the pieces together using my 3x rivet gun. I secured the parts to the table with c-clamps and scrap pieces of 2x4 pieces of wood to preclude the parts moving and potentially ruining my attempts at riveting them. I was able to completely rivet the HS-710, HS-714, both HS-00001, and both HS-702's together into one piece.
