Brief Description:  Riveting the Horizontal Stab Spars

Today I spent a lot of time cleaning up the mistakes I made on the previous day. I removed two additional rivets, reset many rivets using the rivet gun and bucking bar. And I also made a small mistake while bucking a rivet, which shows how tedious my new found proficiency is. I found my best results with the rivet gun and bucking bar. I was able to get all of the AN470AD4-6 rivets set flush with the spar, and accureately size the shop heads. Even though most blogs have noted the use of the squeezer on the HS-603/-609 union. I wasn't able to get the results I desired until late in the mating process. Thus I spent more time analyzing and fixing errors made with the squeezer, with the rivet gun. This process took much longer than I had originally thought. By the time I got to the last rivets, my use of the squeezer was becoming second nature, thus I mounted the four hinges to the rear spar, using the squeezer. And only messed up one rivet which I promptly removed and replaced.

Upon reinspecting my work, I found one rivet that just need a it more persuasion to be perfect and I attempted to use the rivet gun and my tungsten bucking bar to touch up the rivet. But during the buck, the bucking bar slipped and misshaped the shop head. After sending the pictures and explanation to Van's technical staff, I was encouraged to leave the rivet as is and continue on. Due to the fact that removing the rivet might destroy the entire piece for a rivet that is only cosmetically damaged.
